Video and Short film Dubbing and Subtitling
Dubbing, is a process that replaces an actor or speaker’s voice with another voice in the same or another language. This is a very common practice for translation.
Dubbing consists of recording and substituting voices, synchronizing the dubbing actor with the original speech so that when the actor on screen moves their mouth to speak, the dubbing is heard as though they are saying the same lines (lip-sync).
Subtitling consists of adding caption, which usually appear at the bottom of the image with the translation or transcription of the spoken text in a video.
This is an atypical kind of translation as the end product has both the spoken and written texts, so the viewer can hear the actor’s voice while the subtitle gives them the language support they need to understand what is being said in their own language.
